A practical session on the context-sensitive approach took place on November 28 at the Kyiv School of Economics. The lecture was led by Tetiana Kalenychenko, co-founder of Dialogue in Action and expert of the Ukrainian Community of Dialogue Practitioners.

During the session, participants learned how to take into account the complex reality of conflict and the surrounding social environment to ensure that any activity – from peacebuilding to humanitarian or educational projects – contributes positively and does not increase risks for communities.

In the practical part, Tetiana introduced the concept of “context maps”: a detailed analysis of key actors, influencing factors, conflict dynamics, as well as “connectors” and “dividers” within society. This tool helps teams plan their work more attentively, anticipate possible consequences, and make decisions that truly meet the needs of people.

One of the key takeaways was the understanding that genuine “positive peace” is not limited to the cessation of active hostilities; it also involves transforming attitudes, structures, and the broader environment that shape the long-term resilience of communities.

The event was supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung in partnership with the Kyiv School of Economics and Ukrainian Community of Dialogue Practitioners. We are grateful to our colleagues for the collaboration and engaging discussion!
